Steve Owens, the owner, personally visits every home site with each client weekly to review schedules, to advise on upcoming construction events and to assist in plan modification. This open communication allows immediate changes and affords opportunities to improve the design of your home as it is being built. We are committed to quality and your satisfaction.

About the Owner
Steve Owens, president and CEO of Barton Homes, owes the beginnings of his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic to his father, Gordon Owens. While growing up in Elkhart, Indiana, Steve worked for his father’s plastic forming company doing jobs from sweeping the floors to building molds for the vacuum form machines. These jobs were held from middle school through college. Values of hard work, accuracy and communication were learned at an early age.

After high school, Steve attended DePauw University, in Greencastle, IN. There he began a liberal arts education with an emphasis on economics and accounting. After attending Depauw for 3 years Steve transferred to Indiana University to complete his college degree in economics.

After graduation in 1981, Steve was bitten by the adventure bug and packed up everything he owned and moved to Texas. It took him two years of searching to find the career field that totally suited his desires and personality. After hiring on with one of the fastest growing home building companies in the US, Steve excelled at his job, receiving promotion after promotion until ending up in Austin and running a top 10 homebuilding company. After years of working for large homebuilders Steve decided it was time to build for himself. This began the formation of Barton Homes.

Barton Homes was founded in 1996 and homebuilding began in Austin, Pflugerville, Cedar Park and Leander. Barton Homes now includes the entire Austin metro area as it’s buildable territory with most construction centered in Dripping Springs and the southwest Austin area that includes Lakeway, Spicewood, Driftwood, Wimberly and Blanco.

Steve is married and has 8 children, lives in Dripping Springs and enjoys making things with his hands out of wood. His latest projects have been a wood strip canoe and a bookcase for his wife. He is active in his church and has taught Sunday school with his wife. His children range in age from 19 years to 6 months with one set of spontaneous triplet boys. An excellent start of a legacy!
